Cary Schmidt, Senior Pastor
Cary Schmidt came by faith to Emmanuel in August of 2012 after serving for 22 years as Associate Pastor at Lancaster Baptist Church in Southern California. He and his wife Dana have enjoyed 26 years of marriage and ministry together and have enjoyed raising three children—Lance, 26, Larry, 23, and Haylee, 17. The Schmidts share a vision for a revitalized Emmanuel Baptist Church—a healthy, Christ-centered church where the gospel of grace is preached and practiced through authentic community in a dynamic local church. They are passionate about introducing lost hearts to Jesus and discipling new believers into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Pastor Schmidt has written eleven books—the most recent entitled Passionate Parenting.
Derrick Williams, Assistant Pastor, Adult Ministry
Derrick Williams came by faith to Emmanuel in March of 2013, after serving for five years in local church ministry and children’s ministry. He and his wife Darci have been married for seven years and they have been blessed with three children—Titus, Micah, and Alana. The Williams began to sense God’s call to assist in the revitalizing work at Emmanuel, and came to Connecticut by faith. Derrick provides oversight of the developing outreach, follow-up, adult education, and care ministries of Emmanuel. The Williams share in the vision for a balanced and healthy local church in Connecticut where hearts are transformed by God’s grace.
Jon Riopel, Assistant Pastor, Administration
Jon and Laura Riopel came to EBC in August of 2010. Jon’s initial focus was teaching advanced math at Emmanuel Christian Academy. Recently Jon began to serve as our administrative pastor, providing leadership in church finances and ministry projects. He and his wife Laura have been married for six years and were blessed with twins in 2014—James and Isabella. Together they also oversee the College and Career department of the church—leading regular Bible studies and fellowships for college-aged young adults. Jon and Laura share in the vision and future of EBC and love serving with the EBC family!
Lance Schmidt, Assistant Pastor, Youth, Music, Media
Lance and his wife Hillarie were married in June 2013, began serving full time at Emmanuel in September of 2013, and welcomed boy/girl twins, Chad and Charleigh, into their family in 2015. Together they invest their lives into the 7th-12th grade students through Emmanuel Baptist Church and Emmanuel Christian Academy. Lance teaches the Elevate Bible Study each Wednesday night for teenagers and a student connection group each Sunday morning at 9:30am. Lance also leads the worship on Sunday morning and oversees the media department. He and Hillarie are excited about seeing a rebirth of dynamic student, music, and media ministries through Emmanuel in the coming years.
Sherwin Santiago, Assistant Pastor, Children’s Ministry
Sherwin and his family transitioned to Connecticut from California during the summer of 2015. Prior to that time, the Santiagos served on the staff of Lancaster Baptist Church after graduation from West Coast Baptist College. Sherwin and his wife Melissa have four children—Dominic, Charlie, Zoey, and Isabelle—and are excited about leading our children’s ministry and serving the families of EBC. He teaches Bible and leads chapel services at Emmanuel Christian Academy.
Glenn Mason, Administrator of ECA
Glenn and his wife Mary Jane have been a part of Emmanuel Baptist Church for nineteen years. Glenn presently serves as full-time secondary administrator and teacher at Emmanuel Christian Academy. He has over ten years teaching experience in both secondary and college level education, currently teaching part-time at Central Connecticut State University in computer programming. Glenn and Mary Jane are joyful, gracious team members with a genuine love for people.
